Our History, Bible Institute for the Deaf (BID)
Here is building of BID
The Bible Institute for the Deaf (BID) was started by the Rev. S. Wayne Shaneyfelt, a missionary of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, USA. He came to the Philippines in October 1962. He founded BID as a ministerial school on October 12, 1962.
With the love for the deaf, he worked hard with only three students who had God's call to do Christian service. They enrolled in a hearing school and with the help of the interpreters, they learned to cope. Later, when more deaf enrolled in the program and seeing that the deaf needed a facility, more attention and time to study, Rev. Shaneyfelt started a building project.
In 1971, the deaf moved to the new facility, the SW Shaneyfelt Building. Later, when parents of the deaf heard of the school, they pleaded that their kids be admitted in BID. Although it started as a ministerial training school for post high school deaf, the administrator later on decided to accept deaf children to train them in academic and vocational skills.
It was not until May 14, 1991 that BID received government recognition from DECS-NCR for its Pre-Elementary and Elementary Program. On July 19, 1996, BID got permission to start the High School department, which was accredited as ASCEP Church School covered by Gov't. Permit No. 001 Series of 1996 granted by DECS to ASCEP on March 11, 1996. Then on February 12, 2001, BID High School got government permit.
Finally, BID received its government recognition for Secondary Program on February 16, 2005.
